Adjusting in longitudinal and transverse direction
1 | Remove rear spoiler | ||
2 | Open tailgate (1) | ||
Danger! | Injury hazard Gas pressure struts are under high pressure and can pinch and crush body parts during work | Remove and install gas pressure struts only in relaxed position and on components properly secured.
3 | Secure tailgate (1) with suitable subsurface | Tailgate (1) must be opened completely.
4 | Lift retainer (3) and remove gas pressure strut (2) from tailgate (1) on both sides. | Do not remove retainer (3), because otherwise the tension of retainer (10) would be lost.
5 | Clamp gas pressure strut (2) behind stop buffer (5) on both sides.
6 | Close tailgate (1). | ||
7 | Loosen bolts (4) on tailgate (1) from hinge and adjust gaps by moving tailgate. | Dimension "G": Gap for tailgate to taillamp unit Dimension "I": Gap for tailgate to bumper Dimension "M": Gap for tailgate to rear spoiler
| |||
Avoid damaging paint, if necessary clean hinge contact surfaces, grind and finish paint consisting of primer (corrosion protection), basic paint and top coat paint.
8 | Tighten bolts (4) | | |
9 | Clip gas pressure strut (2) with installed retainer (3) installed to ball head (3) (arrow) of tailgate on both sides (1).
10 | Screw in stop buffer (5) on left and right approx. 1 1/2 turns | For this purpose loosen counter nut (6).
11 | Slightly loosen bolts (8) on shackle (7)
12 | Adjust shackle (7) by moving so that tailgate lock (1) engages in center of shackle (7) when closing tailgate (1).
13 | Tighten bolts (8) on shackle (7)
14 | Check whether tailgate can be closed easily | Repeat procedure if necessary
15 | Install rear spoiler
Adjusting the stop buffers
16 | Adjust stop buffer (5) uniformly on left and right so that they make contact when tailgate is closed. | When adjusted correctly the stop buffers (5) push the tailgate (1) out of the lock when opening.
17 | Tighten lock nuts (6) of stop buffers (5) on left and right
18 | Check whether tailgate (1) closes and opens easily. | If necessary readjust stop buffers (5). |
