7

Knock out kingpin (13) until clamp nut (11) makes contact with steering knuckle

Use brass hammer.
This helps to prevent any damage to the kingpin (13).

If the kingpin (13) cannot be knocked out:

Heat axle beam end and, where applicable, steering knuckle (12) in area of kingpin (13) and knock out kingpin (13).

8

Unscrew clamp nut (11)

To do so, release safety screw of clamp nut (11). Secure the kingpin (13) against falling down.

9

Remove steering knuckle (12)

To do so, release top thrust plate (14) first and then remove the thrust plate (18), then pull out the kingpin (13). Do not turn the steering stop screw.

16

Install steering knuckle (12) into axle beam end

To do so, before mounting the steering knuckle (12) grease the area of the steering knuckle bearing.
Knock in kingpin (13) from below by applying light hammer blows while simultaneously screwing on clamp nut (11) until finger-tight so that thrust plate (18) and upper thrust plate (14) can then be installed.

Adjust bearing play at steering knuckle (12)

The bearing should be free of play and it must be possible to move the bearing easily, otherwise the procedure must be repeated.
This prevents damage.

To do so, tighten clamp nut (11) until bearing becomes sluggish. Release clamp nut (11) 1/3 to 1/4 turn and tighten safety screw of clamp nut (11).
