Remove

Disassemble drive head.

Position the drive head (1) as shown in illustration.

Remove pinion flange mounting nut (2) from pinion using special tool flange holder.

Remove the flange using special tool pinion flange puller (3).

Remove oil seal (4) from the pinion housing.

 Use special tool pulling hook (5) and impact extractor (6).

Unscrew the pinion housing (7) mounting bolts and remove it along with pinion shaft from the drive head housing.

 Use puller bolts (8) 2nos for pinion housing removal.

Remove shims (9) from drive head casing and store it in a secured place.


Ensure the shims are not damaged by any external objects.
Cause misalignment during assembly.

Remove pinion shaft (10) from the pinion cage by using hydraulic press.

Remove tail bearing inner race (11) from the pinion housing.

Remove pinion head bearing outer race (12) along with baffle plate from pinion cage.

 Use copper drift and hammer.

Remove pinion tail bearing outer race (13) from pinion cage.

 Use copper drift and hammer.



Install

Install baffle plate (14) to the pinion housing.

 Avoid reuse the old baffle plate replace the component.

Install tail bearing race (13) to the pinion housing using special tool drift bearing outer.

Install head bearing race (12) to the pinion housing using special tool drift (15).

Install pinion housing to pinion shaft unit using special tool bearing installer (16).

Install pinion housing (7) mounting bolts to drive head casing.

 Avoid installing oil seal to the pinion, shim on the top of the drive head housing prior to pre-load setting.
Apply one bead of recommended sealant for each bolt across the threads.

Install pinion flange mounting nut (2) to the pinion shaft and tighten the nut.

 Hold the flange using special tool flange holder.

 Old pinion flange nut to the pinion shaft
