Remove

1

Remove propeller shaft on drive flange (1) of the rear axle and secure against falling using tensioning straps

Remove bell hub with left and right rear axle shaft

Disconnect electrical connections on the rear axle oil temperature sensor (2) and on the pressure switch of the interwheel differential lock (5)

Remove compressed air line at the interwheel differential lock (5)

Loosen bolts (4, 6) around the entire circumference

 Bolts (4) only for rear axle 748.280 in the area of the interwheel differential lock (5).

Unscrew bolts (4, 6)


Before removing the last two bolts (6), the axle drive (3) must be securely lashed to the inspection pit lift.
Otherwise, the axle drive (3) may fall out of the axle housing in an uncontrolled manner.

Remove axle drive (3) from the axle housing using the inspection pit lift

Remove axle drive (3) from the inspection pit lift



Install

Securely lash the axle drive (3) to the inspection pit lift

Thoroughly clean the sealing surfaces on the axle housing and the axle drive (3)

Apply sealant to the sealing surface on the axle housing

Sealant, Loctite 5970, 50 ml

Insert axle drive (3) into the axle housing using the inspection pit lift and screw in bolts (4, 6) by hand

 Bolts (4) only for rear axle 748.280 in the area of the interwheel differential lock (5).

Remove inspection pit lift from the axle drive (3)

14

Tighten all bolts (4, 6) crosswise and in 2 stages

 Observe different values for bolts (4, 6).

Mount compressed air line to the interwheel differential lock (5)

Connect electrical connection on the rear axle oil temperature sensor (2) and on the pressure switch of the interwheel differential lock (5)

17

Install bell hub with left and right rear axle shaft
