Remove

1

Drain oil from rear axle



Remove propeller shaft on drive flange (1) of the rear axle and secure against falling using tensioning straps

Lock interwheel differential lock (9) mechanically

Detach right and left rear axle shaft (7) from wheel hubs and pull approx. 170 mm out of axle housing (4)

Detach compressed air line (6) and vent line (5) from interwheel differential lock (9)

Unscrew screws/bolts (2) around circumference of axle drive (3)


Before removing the last two screws/bolts (2), the axle drive (3) must be securely lashed to the inspection pit lift.
The axle drive (3) can otherwise fall out of the axle housing (4) in an uncontrolled manner.

Position inspection pit lift at axle drive (3) and lash axle drive (3) securely to inspection pit lift

Remove two remaining screws/bolts (2)

Pull axle drive (3) out of axle housing (4)

Lever axle drive (3) out of mount of inspection pit lift



Install

Insert axle drive (3) into inspection pit lift and lash down securely

Clean sealing surface on axle drive (3) and on axle housing (4) and coat with sealant

Loctite 5203 sealant

Screw guide pins into axle housing (4) at four opposing holes



Slide axle drive (3) over guide pins and into axle housing (5)

Secure axle drive (3) to axle housing (5) using two new screws/bolts (2)

 Position the two new screws/bolts (2) by hand only.

Remove guide pins

Install axle drive (3) using new screws/bolts (2)

 Axle drive housing to axle housing

Attach compressed air line (6) and vent line (5) to interwheel differential lock (9)

Clean sealing surfaces on flange of rear axle shafts (2) and on wheel hubs and coat with sealant

Install both rear axle shafts (2)

 Bolt, rear axle shaft to wheel hub

Release interwheel differential lock (9) mechanically

Pour in transmission oil at rear axle
