Remove/install

Remove corresponding rear wheel and tire assembly.

Expose and fold down wheel carrier, and pull rear axle shaft (6) out of rear axle shaft flange.

 Extraction and insertion tool

Pry rear axle shaft (6) out of rear axle differential.

 Do not rest the assembly lever on the protective ring (7). Support the assembly lever, e.g. using a socket wrench, on the rear axle differential.

Remove rear axle shaft (6).

 Installation: Replace retaining ring (8) on inner splined profile.



Check

Check constant velocity joints.

If axial or radial play is present:



Replace rear axle shaft (6).

Check axle boots (6a).

If damage or leaks are present:



replace corresponding axle boot (6a).

Check side radial shaft sealing ring in rear axle differential.

If damage or leaks are present:



Replace side radial shaft sealing ring in rear axle differential.

Install in the reverse order.
