The measurement tool is composed with the following components:

Measurement bridge (11)

Diameter gauge (12)

Bolts (15)

Clamping arch (16)

Determine shim size for drive pinion

1

Measure the recessed profile (B) of the outer race (7) of the new tapered roller bearing (22), and write down as measure A.

Determine shim size for drive pinion

2

Insert the diameter gauge (12) in the housing (14) of the tapered roller bearing (22) in the axle housing (10).

3

Insert the measurement bridge (11) in the housing bearings (13, 18), so that the diameter gauge (12) is fitted in one of the recesses of the measurement bridge (11).

4

Place the clamping arch (16) with the bolts (15) in the axle housing (10).

5

Insert a 0,3 mm gauge blade (17) in the central position between the measuring bridge (11) and the clamping arch (16), and tighten the bolts (15).

The pressed 0.3 mm gauge blade (17) prevent the unintentional lateral displacement of the measurement bridge (11) on the bearing housings (13, 18).

6

Place the dial gauge (19) with the dial gauge holder (20) on the measurement bridge (11) so that the dial gauge tip touches with a slight previous tension on the measuring point (21) at the measurement bridge (11).

7

Set the dial gauge scale (19) to "0".

Determine shim size for drive pinion

8

Displace the dial gauge holder (20) with the dial gauge (19) on the measurement bridge (11) so that the dial gauge tip touches at the diameter gauge (12).

The diameter gauge (12) corresponds to the pinion basic construction measure.
The pointer of the dial gauge (19) can move from "0" to right or left.
If the pointer of the dial gauge (19) moves from "0" to right, this means that the pinion basic construction measure has been exceeded.
If the pointer of the dial gauge (19) moves from "0" to left, this means that the pinion basic construction measure is lower than the normal measure.
This measurement results in a variable calculation to determine the thickness of the needed compensating washer, Measure E.

9

Read the value on the scale of the dial gauge (19).

When the read value is on the right of "0",

write down the read value as Measure B.

When the read value is on the left of "0",

write down the read value as Measure B.

When the read value is on "0",

Do not proceed to any other steps.

In this case, the Measure A corresponds to the thickness "Measure E" of the compensating washer needed.

10

Determine the "Measure E" of the compensating washer needed.

Only with the written "Measure B" or "Measure C".

Measure A - Measure B = Measure E
OR
Measure A + Measure C = Measure E

Calculation examples:

2,10 mm (Measure A) - 0,06 mm (Measure B) = 2,04 mm (Measure E)

1,75 mm (Measure A) + 0,07 mm (Measure C) = 1,82 mm (Measure E)
