Removing

Remove rear wheels

 The vehicle must be jacked up on the lift support points when detaching the rear wheels.

Remove rear half shaft

Adjust

Carry out basic adjustment on rear wheel hub (5)

 The outer slotted nut (1) and the inner slotted nut (3) should not yet be secured with the locking plate (2) after the basic adjustment has been carried out. Use new locking plate (2).

Release tension on tapered roller bearing in rear wheel hub (5)

 Do this by turning the rear wheel hub (5) and applying some blows to the rear wheel hub (5) in a criss-cross pattern with a plastic or rubber hammer.

Install dial indicator holder (6) with dial indicator (7) on the rear wheel hub (5)

 In the process fit the tip of the dial indicator (7) on the end face of the axle tube under preload.



Move the rear wheel hub (5) to and fro firmly while reading off the wheel bearing play on the dial indicator (7)

 If the specified value is not attained, adjust the wheel bearing play and then carry out the measurement again:



Remove dial indicator holder (6) and dial indicator (7) from rear wheel hub (5)

Secure inner slotted nut (3) and outer slotted nut (1)

 By hammering in the new locking plate (2) into suitable grooves on the inner slotted nut (3) and outer slotted nut (1).



Install

Install rear axle shaft
