Secure vehicle against rolling

Release parking brake

Remove cotter pins (4) from left and right pins (5) and remove pins (5) from each clevis (1)

Separate clevises (1) from left and right parking brake levers (3)

 Installation: Install pin (5) free of stress. Replace and grease cotter pin (4).

Operate parking brake

Disconnect compressed air lines (9, 10)

Disconnect electrical connector (7)

Separate electrical connections (6)

Detach compressed-air line (11)

Detach brake lines (12) from brake hoses (13) on longitudinal frame and seal off connections

Pull out locking plate (14) and remove brake hoses (13) from bracket

Remove cable tie (15) and remove bleed lines (16) from harness

 Installation: Replace cable ties (15).

Unscrew bolts (17) of left and right shock absorbers (18)

 Nut/bolt, shock absorber to rear axle

Unscrew bolts (19) of left and right stabilizer link brackets (20)

 Bolt, stabilizer bar to rear axle bracket

Remove transverse control arm (22) completely

 Bolt, transverse control arm to frame

Detach linkage for automatic load-dependent brake (ALB) (23) from rear axle

 Installation: Replace cotter pin.

Place jack stand under torque tube (8)

Remove screws (24)

 Bolt, torque ball housing to transfer case

Pull away front axle using chain hoist from transfer case and place wooden block between torque tube (8) and transfer case

 Installation: Clean sealing surfaces and apply sealant.

Loctite 5203 sealant

Unscrew bolts (25) of propeller shaft (26) and pull off propeller shafts

 Bolt, propeller shaft to rear axle output shaft flange

Fix springs (27, 28) in place using tensioning strap (29)

 Fixing the springs (27, 28) in this position makes installation easier.

Raise vehicle at its frame

 Installation: Only lower the vehicle until the springs (27, 28) rest in the spring cups.

Put down vehicle on support stands under frame

Roll out rear axle to rear using suitable bar

Adjust preload of torque tube (8) relative to torque ball housing

 Installation: Before installation of the rear axle, the preloads on the torque tube (8) must be adjusted relative to the torque ball housing.
