Lift/jack up vehicle

 Raise vehicle until wheels are free of ground.

Remove front wheels



Remove/install wheels, rotate if necessary

Remove front axle brake caliper

 Do not disconnect the brake hose. Attach brake caliper to vehicle without tension to relieve brake hose so that it is not damaged during repair.

Detach lower engine compartment paneling

Remove bottom section of soundproofing

Mark position of front axle gear propeller shaft (1) relative to flange (4) of front axle gear and to flange of transfer case

Remove front axle gear propeller shaft (1)

Measure and note down total friction torque of drive pinion

Dismantle hexagon collar nut (3) on flange (4)

 Mark position of flange (4) relative to input shaft and front axle differential housing.

 Installation: Replace hexagon collar nut (3).

 Installation: Tighten hexagon collar nut (3) gradually, until the measured and noted total friction torque is reached.



Remove flange (4)

Pry radial shaft sealing ring (5) out of front axle gear using a suitable tool

 Installation: Coat lip of radial shaft sealing ring (5) with Universal hypoid gear oil.

 Installation: Press in radial shaft sealing ring (5) into the front axle differential using drift (6).

Check oil level in front axle gear and correct if necessary

 If a new front axle gear has been installed, or following repair of an oil leakage or if oil has escaped during removal.
