Remove/install steering knuckle

Removing

Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform.

Align vehicle between the columns of the lifting platform and position the four support plates at the lifting platform support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.

Remove front wheel hub

Rotate brake cam (3) into the zero position

Detach spring (2)

Detach both protective plates from brake carrier (1)

Detach brake carrier (1) from steering knuckle (10) (arrows) and remove

Detach tie rod

Detach drag link



Remove ABS sensor

Only with code B02 (ABS).

Remove upper and lower circlip
(5, 9)

Remove sealing washer (6, 8) with sealing ring.

Remove kingbolt (4)



Remove steering knuckle (10)

Replace upper and lower needle roller bearing

Clean all parts and check for wear, renew if necessary.



Install

Push steering knuckle (10) onto the axle beam end (7)

Adjust axial play of steering knuckle (10)

Supercool kingbolt (4) with nitrogen in chilling box

 Kingbolt should be completely covered with nitrogen. If the quantity poured in is used up, then the bolt is supercooled to approx. -140°C.

Heat up axle beam end (7)



 Use axle beam end heater to heat up axle beam end to approx. 200-300°C (yellow temper color).

Insert kingbolt (4)

 Insert kingbolt (4) from above as far as the stop.

Drive in upper needle roller bearing

 Using drift, drive in needle roller bearing as far as the stop.

 Only exert pressure from the drift punch on the marked (hardened) end face.

Insert upper and lower circlip
(5, 9)

Install tie rod

 Replace cotter pin.
