1 Press both bearing outer races for the ring gear bearing in to the rear transmission housing.
2 Insert both tapered roller bearings (1, 2) into the transmission housing and clamp together with zero clearance using clamping device (3).
In the process turn the tapered roller bearings (1, 2) several times.
3 Measure the distance between the two bearing inner races (1, 2) using depth gauge (4) = dimension "A".

4 Measure the distance from the contact collar of the front bearing to the ring gear using depth gauge (4) = dimension "B".
5 Adjust the axial play with appropriate shims (5).
Dimension "B" must be smaller than dimension "A" by the specified value "A". The objective is to have an axial play at the lowest tolerance limit.

6 Warm up tapered roller bearing (1) to a maximum of 100 °C and slide on up to the end stop on the ring gear hub.
Adjust tapered roller bearing (1) to zero axial play.

7 Mount rear transmission housing on the ring gear and support transmission housing appropriately.
8 Heat up tapered roller bearing (2) to a maximum of 100 °C and slide onto the end stop on the ring gear shaft.
