AR20.00-P-1010RR | Inspecting the cooling system for leaks | 27.5.03 |
ENGINES 160.921 /922 /923 in MODELS 452.3 /4
P20.00-2183-01
1 Cap
2 Expansion reservoir
| Remove | ||
Danger! | Risk of injury to skin and eyes caused by scalding from contact with hot coolant spray. Risk of poisoning from swallowing coolant. | Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90°C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.
1 | Open cap (1) on expansion reservoir (2) | Turn cap half a turn in the counterclockwise direction, release pressure, and then unscrew cap.
| Checking | ||
| Notes on coolant | All engines | |
2 | Check coolant level and antifreeze | If the antifreeze protection of the coolant is inadequate, either antifreeze must be topped up, or the coolant must be replaced, see:
Drain coolant, fill. | |||
3 | Connect tester to expansion reservoir (2) | Pressure pump
4 | Pressurize cooling system | Test pressure not greater than 1.6 bar. If new cylinder head gasket fitted, first of all warm up engine to operating temperature before testing cooling system for leaks.
5 | Inspect coolant pump for leaktightness
6 | Check condition and seating of hose clamps and retighten or replace as necessary
7 | Inspect cooling and heating hoses as well as their connection points for proper condition and coolant loss, replace coolant hoses if necessary
8 | Detach tester on expansion reservoir (2) | Pressure pump
| Installing | ||
9 | Screw cap (1) onto expansion reservoir (2) |
