 	Remove/install
Danger!	Risk of explosion caused by fuel igniting, risk of poisoning caused by inhaling and swallowing fuel and risk of injury to eyes and skin caused by contact with fuel	No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking. 1	Open left rear maintenance flap
2	Disconnect ground line of battery
3	Open engine compartment flap at rear
4	Remove engine compartment flap below last row of seats
5	Clean engine in area of MR/PLD unit pump (7)
6	Remove charge air manifold		AR09.41-A-8681A
7	Take off fuel tank filler cap	 If fuel tank is open, it is possible to automatically drain the fuel filter housing. When filter housing is open, fuel flows back along fuel return flow line into fuel tank.
8	Remove fuel filter cap (3) together with fuel filter element	 Only take fuel filter cap (3) with fuel filter element off filter housing after all fuel has flowed out of fuel filter housing.
		 Installation: Install new O-ring.

9	Close fuel tank again with filler cap
10	Remove/install fuel prefilter	 Only for removal of MR/PLD unit pump for cylinder 1.	AR47.20-A-1080A
11	Detach fuel lines (11) from hand pump	 Only for removal of MR/PLD unit pump for cylinder 1. Collect escaping fuel.
12	Unbolt bracket of fuel prefilter (10)	 Only for removal of MR/PLD unit pump for cylinder 1.
13	Remove/install MR/PLD injection lines		AR07.15-A-9235A
14	Detach fuel suction line (14) from pressure control valve (15)	 Collect fuel which flows out.
		 Installation: Install new sealing rings (13).

15	Unscrew pressure control valve (15) and remove fuel leak line (17) from crankcase	 Collect fuel which flows out.
		 Installation: Install new sealing rings (16).

16	Unscrew fuel line (8) from crankcase	 Collect fuel which flows out.
17	Blow out fuel channel in crankcase with compressed air (arrow)	 Collect fuel which flows out.
18	Attach turning device for engine	The turning device must be removed before starting engine to avoid engine damage.	AR03.30-A-1600-03A

19	Take off engine wiring harness (1) at MR/PLD unit pump (7)	 Loosen bolts (2) on solenoid valve and unplug both cable lugs. Unclip engine wiring harness (1) carefully from the MR/PLD unit pump (7).
20	Mark MR/PLD unit pump (7) to the relevant cylinder	 Only if a number of MR/PLD unit pumps (7) are removed.
21	Loosen bolts (4)	 For safety reasons, bolts (4) must only be unscrewed by about 6 mm since the MR/PLD unit pump unit (7) tensioned by spring force.
		 Installation: Install MR/PLD unit pump (7) with the bolts (4) by slowly and alternately screwing into the crankcase.

22	Push in MR/PLD unit pump (7) up to the screw heads	Rotate crankshaft using cranking device (in its direction of rotation) until pump cam on camshaft pushes the MR/PLD unit pump (7) out of crankcase.
		 If MR/PLD unit pump (7) is not pushed out: 
		Lever out MR/PLD unit pump (7) carefully at housing flange.
		 A tight fitting MR/PLD unit pump (7) must not be pressed out at solenoid valve.
23	Remove bolts (4) and take out MR/PLD unit pump (7)	 Installation: - Carefully remove dirt and paint residues on MR/PLD unit pump sealing surface (7) and on crankcase.
		- Coat unit pump body, O-rings and socket in crankcase with a light layer of oil.
		- Do not tilt MR/PLD unit pump (7) when inserting into crankcase.
		- Carefully press in the MR/PLD unit pump (7) by hand, pushing against the spring pressure and continuing until the gap is approx. 4 mm. If the unit pump lobe on the camshaft is pointing upwards, making it impossible to press the MR/PLD unit (7) in deeply enough, continue turning engine roughly a revolution using turning/blocking device.
24	Remove O-rings (5, 6) on MR/PLD unit pump (7)	 Installation: Clean radial groove in unit pump body.
		 The O-rings (5, 6) must not be installed twisted in grooves to avoid leaks.
25	Check roller on the roller tappet	 The MR/PLD unit pump (7) can be used again if there are only a minimal number of score marks or scratches on it. If deep scoring, scratches or sanding spots are present: 
		Replace MR/PLD unit pump (7)
		 The unit pump body must not be disassembled.
26	Install in the reverse order
