Remove camshaft housing

Remove spark plugs



Replace spark plugs

Position piston to TDC

Rotate engine at crankshaft.
 Pull timing chain up tight so that it does not jam when engine rotated.

 Depending on the position of the crankshaft, either cylinders 1+4 or cylinders 2+3 can be processed.

Remove crankshaft position sensor and block crankshaft with retaining lock

Turn connection piece (7) into the relevant spark plug hole



Pressurize compression chamber

with approx. 5 bar

Attach valve assembly tool (11) to the cylinder head and position vertically at top valve spring retainer (2)

 Use parts (3, 5, 7, 14, 18) from valve assembly tool case.

Use assembly tool (11) to compress valve spring (3), remove valve collets (1), top valve spring retainer (2) and valve spring (3)

 Do not place valves onto the piston crown otherwise they will be bent.

Inspect top valve spring retainer (2) for pitting, replace if necessary.

 Use magnetic pin (10) to remove valve collets (1).

Installation: Ensure the valve collets (1) are properly seated.

Use pliers (9) to pull off valve stem seals (4)


 Inspect surface of valve stems for roughness and formation of burrs (visual inspection or check with nail).

Replace valves with rough stem surface or burrs. 

Remove valves

 Installation: Fit protective sleeve (6) onto the valve stem.

Oil valve stem seals (4) and press on with drift (8).
Pull protective sleeve (6) off the valve stem.

Take off bottom valve spring retainer (5)

Inspect bottom valve spring retainer (5) for pitting, replace if necessary.

Install in the reverse order
