Check crankshaft in removed state

1

Check all bearing points of the crankshaft (6) for traces of wear, cross scores, notches, blue coloration and damage.

If damage is present,

Install new crankshaft (6).

2

Check contact surfaces of the crankshafts bearing shells (5) and thrust surfaces of the thrust plates (8) on the crankcase for traces of wear and damage.

If damage is present,

Replace crankshaft and crankcase (6).

3

Check contact surfaces of the crankshaft bearing shells (4) on the crankshaft bearing cap (1) for traces of wear and damage.

If damage is present,

Replace crankshaft and crankcase (6).

4

Check contact surfaces of the crankshaft bearing shells (4) and thrust surfaces of the thrust plates (7) on the crankshaft bearing cap (2) for traces of wear and damage.

If damage is present,

Replace crankshaft and crankcase (6).

5

Measure basic bore width on the crankshaft bearing cap (2).

If the measured value lies outside the tolerance,

Replace crankshaft and crankcase (6).

7

Install crankshaft bearing caps (1) without crankshaft bearing shells (4, 5).

8

Install crankshaft bearing cap (2) without crankshaft bearing shells (4, 5) and without thrust plates (7, 8).

9

Measure basic bore diameter with a dial indicator and a rapid measuring gauge for inner measurements in the direction A, B and C in two planes (roundness).

Commercially available devices/tools
Quick calipers for internal measurements

If the measured values lie outside of the tolerance,

Replace crankshaft and crankcase (6).

10
