Replace front crankshaft radial sealing ring

Removing

Open left rear maintenance flap

Disconnect ground cable on battery

Remove engine compartment flap below last row of seats

Remove transmission

Remove torque converter

 Automatic transmission vehicles only

Remove flywheel

Remove radial sealing ring (1)

 Press radial sealing ring (1) out of timing case using a lever



Checking

Inspect race on flywheel for wear and grooves caused by radial sealing ring (1)

 If no race is installed on the crankshaft or if the race is damaged, install or replace race: 

Remove/install race on flywheel

Install

Install radial sealing ring (1)

 Replace radial sealing ring (1) pack space between dust and sealing lip half-full with universal grease.

Insert radial sealing ring (1) into drift (2) and knock it into the timing case with a plastic mallet. When doing this, the hole in the drift (2) must fit exactly into the straight pin of the crankshaft.



Install transmission

Install engine compartment flap below the last seat row

Connect ground cable to battery

Close left rear service flap
