Disconnect/connect/remove ground lead from battery

 

Remove/Install

Open engine hood and raise to vertical position

Remove fuel injectors

Remove glow plugs

Slacken charge air cooler

Position piston of cylinder to be inspected to BDC

 Rotate the engine at the crankshaft in the running direction.

Inspecting cylinders with light probe

 For this, connect a cylinder inspection light (1) and insert the flexible test probe (2) of cylinder inspection light into the injector well.



Inspect cylinder walls

 In case of 'scoring' (cylinder wear), the cylinder wall has roughened and the honing marks are no longer visible.

Remove the relevant cylinder head: 
