Remove/install

Remove lock at engine compartment cover and remove engine compartment cover.

Remove spark plugs (R4).

Rotate the engine at the crankshaft center bolt in the direction of engine rotation until the piston of the cylinder to be checked is at bottom dead centre.

Connect cylinder illumination unit (1) to flexible endoscope (2). Insert flexible endoscope (2) through spark plug threaded bore into cylinder to be checked.

Check cylinder barrel, piston crown, and valves.

General information on inspecting cylinder walls

Normal condition of cylinder barrel:
Matt gray surface with honing pattern.

In case of doubt:

remove cylinder head.

Perform check of additional cylinders in same manner.

Install in the reverse order.
