Danger! | Risk of accident by the accidental displacement with the engine running. Risk of injuries from crushing and burns caused by contact during the startup procedure or with the engine running | Secure the vehicle against accidental rolling. Utilize closed and close fitting work clothes. Do not touch heated-up or moving parts.
1 | Start the engine warm-up to service temperature and then shut-down | Coolant temperature, approx. 70 to 95 °C.
2 | Turn the ignition off | ||
Danger! | Risk of injury by pinching and crushing when tilting the cab | During back and forth cab tilting, stay away from tilting area and take preventive measures to avoid non-authorized people from entering tilting area. Always tilt the cab to its final position and secure it with the safety device.
3 | Tilt the cab | ||
| Indications on cab tilting | ||
4 | Remove and fasten the engine starting key (S10) and the engine stopping key (S11) on the charge air manifold | Do not detach the engine starting key (S10) and engine stopping key (S11) from the engine electric wiring harness.
5 | Removing the intake manifold
6 | Removing the cylinder head covers
7 | Removing the injection pipes
8 | Disassembling the combinations of the injector support
Danger! | Risk of explosion through ignition, risk of poisoning through fuel inhaling and ingesting as well as risk of injury from skin and eye contact with fuel | Forbidden to set fire, sparks, open flame and smoking. Only keep fuel in appropriate containers and correspondingly identified. When handling fuel utilize appropriate clothing and protection equipment.
9 | Install the fuel return pipe (2) on the injection units

| |||
| Fuel return pipe (2) from the injection units for the compression rate test | ||
10 | Turn the ignition on | ||
11 | Press the engine starting key (S10) and the engine stopping key (S11) simultaneously and crank the engine several times with the starter | The engine does not fire, when the engine starting key (S10) and the engine stopping key (S11) are pressed simultaneously.
| Test | ||
12 | Install the connection (3) with the sealing ring or with the sealing bushing in the heat protection bushing and secure with fastening trestle (4) | Connection (3), depending on version, with sealing ring or with sealing bushing. To secure, screw-on the fastening trestle (4) with appropriate bolt (5).
| |||
| |||
13 | Install the compression recording gauge (1) and the angular connection (6) on the connection (3) and put or position the diagram sheet (7)
14 | Press the engine starting key (S10) and the engine stopping key (S11) simultaneously and crank the engine at least o revs with the starter | The measuring values are recorded on the diagram sheet (7).
15 | Remove the fastening trestle (4) and the connection (3) | Pull the sealing bushing or ring from the heat protection bushing with a pulling tool.
| |||
16 | Inspect the other cylinders the same way
17 | Compare the data of the diagram sheet (7) with the permissible values | In the case of deviation of permissible values, determine the cause and correct the failures.
| Installing: | ||
Danger! | Risk of explosion through ignition, Risk of poisoning by inhaling and ingesting fuel as well as Risk of injury through skin and eye contact with fuel | Forbidden to set fire, sparks, open flame and smoking. Only keep fuel in appropriate recipients duly correspondingly identified. When handling fuel, use appropriate protection clothing.
18 | Remove the fuel return pipe (2) at the pressure pumps
| |||
19 | Assemble the injector support combinations
20 | Install the injection pipe
