Adjusting | |||
1 | Tighten the threaded rings until the bearings rotate without clearance or pre-load | The crown gear must still rotate with a slight clearance between teeth.
2 | Firmly tighten the threaded rings and simultaneously rotate the drive gear while using a plastic hammer to apply a few vigorous strokes to the bearing caps and the side of the drive gear
3 | Loosen the threaded rings and then tighten them again until they stop softly | In this position the threaded rings must have no clearance nor pre-load
4 | Secure the magnetic block support with the comparator to the housing, pointing the probe on the pressure flank of one of the drive gear teeth, with 1 mm prior tension
| |||
5 | Carry out the backlash measurement of the ring gear and pinion teeth in four points offset 90° and determine the lowest backlash point.
6 | Maintaining the smallest clearance position, move the drive gear with differential assembly axially until the lowest specified clearance is obtained | Loosen one threaded ring and tighten the other by the same measure to maintain the bearing adjustment.
Drive gear and pinion tooth clearance
7 | Remove the support with the comparator and tighten the bearing cap screws opposite the drive gear teeth
8 | Secure the adjustment device to the already tightened bearing cap, with its flag parallel to the drive gear
9 | Secure the magnetic block support with the comparator, resting the probe at right angles on the flag, adjusted to ‘0’ and with a 1 mm prior tension
| |||
10 | Rotate the drive gear continuously while tightening the threaded ring on the drive gear tooth side, until the initial pre-load is obtained on the comparator | For used bearings the lower limit should be maintained and for new ones the upper limit
| |||
11 | Tighten the bearing cap screws on the drive gear tooth side
12 | Rotate the drive gear and check the final pre-load
13 | Check tooth clearance in the drive gear and pinion assembly | If clearance is not within the specified values, repeat the adjustment procedure.
14 | Adjust the pressure screw in a way to obtain a comparator bearing cup movement reading of 0,010 to 0,025 mm, after tightening the counter nut
15 | Confirm the contact markings for the drive gear teeth
