1 Torsion bar
2 Steering worm
3 Straight pin
4 Straight pin
5 Primary shaft
Function
The torque of the primary shaft (5) is transmitted through the straight pin (4) to the torsion bar (1) and through the straight pin (3) on to the steering worm (2).
The torsion moment of the torsion bar (1) when the steering is turned to full lock, is felt as a perceptible backtorque at the steering wheel.
The magnitude of the backtorque depends on the dimensioning of the torsion bar (1).
As a result of the deflection (torsion) of the torsion bar, a relative motion is produced between the rotor and the control covers.
The torsion moment of the deflected torsion bar results in the rotor being restored to the middle position (neutral position) without any additional force.
