A20 Retarder control (RS) control unit
Location
The RS control unit RS (A20) is located in the electronics compartment under the dash support on the passenger side.
Task
1 General
The RS control unit (A20) controls and monitors retarder operation on the basis of a logical structured data exchange with other system components. It detects and stores all malfunctions of retarder operation.
2 To record and evaluate electric sensor signals and switch signals
The electric signals of the following sensors and switches are recorded and evaluated directly:
- Coolant temperature sensor (B65)
Retarder oil temperature sensorB66
- Pressure sensor (Y114b1)
- Engine control/permanent brake operating lever (S2)
3 Electrical actuation of the solenoid valve of the retarder valve block (Y114)
The following solenoid valves are actuated:
- Proportioning valve (Y114y2)
- Shift valve (Y114y1)
4 To record, evaluate and convey
CAN messages which are relevant for retarder operation
Via the vehicle CAN (CAN 1) CAN messages which are relevant to retarder operation are made available from other control units and vice versa are also conveyed to them.
