The electronics for level control (NR/ENR) are calibrated at the factory to a specific frame height (normal level).
The position sensors at the driven axle, and also at the front axle on vehicles equipped with full air suspension, monitor a preset level when the vehicle is both moving and stationary. The preset vehicle level corresponds to the calibrated normal level or a vehicle level entered by the driver.
If the vehicle level deviates from the specified level, the position sensors compensate by increasing or decreasing the pressure in the air bellows at the particular axle or axles and the specified vehicle level is restored.
If the frame of the vehicle is low, the driver can select a second, higher level (level 2) in addition to the normal level (level 1).
For vehicles with low frames (low compression due to the design of the vehicle), selecting level 2 can increase the suspension comfort in certain driving situations.
The driver must exercise extra care, however, if he selects level 2 because this raises the height of the vehicle by
40 mm.
