Task
The electrically operated fuel injectors spray the finely atomized fuel into the intake ports of the cylinders onto the inlet valves.
Design
The fuel injector consists of a valve body and a nozzle needle (4) with the top-mounted solenoid armature (3). The valve body contains the solenoid winding (1) the guide for the nozzle needle (4). When the solenoid winding is deenergized, the nozzle needle is pressed by the coil spring (2) onto its sealing seat.

Function
When the solenoid winding (1) is energized, the nozzle needle (4) is raised by about 0.1 mm by the solenoid armature (3) against the force of the coil spring (2). The fuel flows out through the 2 drillings (a) and is injected as a finely atomized spray onto the injectors.

The fuel injectors are operated by means of electric pulses (ground) by the PEC control module. The duration of the injection time and thus the quantity injected, is computed and specified in the PEC control module in line with the operating state of the engine.
