Danger | Risk of fire/risk of explosion due to short circuit and escaping oxyhydrogen gas. Risk of (burn) injury caused by caustic burns to eyes, skin and mucous membranes from battery electrolyte/mist, short circuit and arcing. Risk of poisoning caused by swallowing battery electrolyte or absorption of lead through the skin or body orifices. Risk of death due to voltage U >= 30 V AC and U >= 60 V DC. | No fires, sparks, open flames, or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing, and glasses. Pour battery acid only into suitable and appropriately marked containers.
Topical note | Notes on battery
1 | Test the battery condition
In case of sealed batteries (maintenance free), if the sight glass presents clear colors or even no color, this is an indication that the battery is damaged by the vehicle's electric system or during an external recharging operation, and the battery test or recharging must be interrupted. In this case, the battery must be replaced.

2 | Remove the battery from the vehicle
Load | |||
3 | Connect the charger's positive terminal to the battery positive post
4 | Connect the charger's negative terminal to the battery negative post
5 | Recharge the battery | Follow the procedures indicated by the battery charging equipment manufacturer.
During the recharge, the maximum current must be equal to 10% of the battery's capacity. For example: 135Ah battery, maximum charging current = 13.5 Amp.
Maximum constant voltage during recharging: 14V to 16V.
Follow the recharging. There might not occur: leaks, gas release through the vent, or excessive heating (above 50°C). Should excessive heating be noticed, reduce the recharging regime.
6 | Disconnect the charger's negative terminal
7 | Disconnect the charger's positive terminal | After recharging, the battery must remain at rest for a period of at least 12 hours.
| Install | ||
8 | Install the battery in the vehicle |
