Check

 Danger

Risk of fire/risk of explosion due to short circuit and escaping oxyhydrogen gas. Risk of (burn) injury caused by caustic burns to eyes, skin and mucous membranes from battery electrolyte/mist, short circuit and arcing. Risk of poisoning caused by swallowing battery electrolyte or absorption of lead through the skin or body orifices. Risk of death due to voltage U >= 30 V AC and U >= 60 V DC.

No fires, sparks, open flames, or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing, and glasses. Pour battery acid only into suitable and appropriately marked containers.

Visual damage or external leakage check

 If battery housing shows any signs of damage or external leaks: replace the battery.

 In case of sealed batteries (maintenance free), if the sight glass presents clear colors or even no color, this is an indication that the battery is damaged by the vehicle electric system or during an external recharging operation, and the battery test or recharging must be interrupted. In this case, the battery must be replaced.

 If the visor presents green color, the battery is able to be tested.

 If the visor presents a dark or black color, this does not mean that the battery is defective, but only that it has no charge. In this case, charge the battery before continuing the test.

Test the battery with a battery test and analysis device

 Utilize the Midtronics EXP 717 (1) measurement gauge. Proceed as recommended by the manufacturer's manual.

 In order to ensure the reliability of the test, make sure that the battery does not present damages, mainly leaks or signs of having been misused, due to incorrect installations on the electric system that eventually are not the vehicle's original ones.
