Remove/install

Remove bottom rear engine compartment lining.

 Installation: Install bottom rear engine compartment lining only after the leak check.

Remove left and right underfloor paneling.

Remove diagonal struts (73).

Remove cross strut (72) from frame floor assembly.

 Bolt, rear reinforcement to frame floor assembly

Remove temperature sensor upstream of gasoline particulate filter (B163/4) and place to one side.

Disconnect electrical connector at left exhaust gas flap actuator motor (M16/53).

Unscrew union nuts (5) and place lines to one side.

 Installation: Coat thread with heat-resistant lubricating paste.



 Installation: Replace clamps (2).

Relieve exhaust system (1) and remove.



Check decoupling elements (3) for wear or damage.

If there are problems,



replace corresponding decoupling element (3).

Check elastomer bearings (4) for wear or damage.

Lubricant, rubber assembly 1 l

If there are problems,



replace corresponding elastomer bearing (4).



Clean

Remove combustion and corrosion residues from separating points.

Install in the reverse order.

Check installation position and clearance of the exhaust system (1).

If there are problems,



Correct the installation position of exhaust system (1).

 Warning

Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.

Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Perform engine test run and check leak tightness of the exhaust system.
