Remove/install

Risk of explosion caused by fuel igniting, risk of poisoning caused by inhaling and swallowing fuel as well as risk of injury to eyes and skin caused by contactwith fuel.

No fires, sparks, open flames or smoking. Pour fuels into suitable and appropriately marked containers only.
Wear protective clothing when handling fuel.

 Make sure that the support plate (2) of the lifting platform at the rear right is positioned in such a way that the removal of the fuel tank (3) is not prevented.

Remove underfloor paneling below around the fuel tank (3)

Remove/install underbody paneling

Unscrew plastic collar nuts on bracket (11) and remove bracket (11)

Disconnect electrical connection (10)

Loosen hose clamp (4) at vent hose (7) and remove vent hose (7) at fuel tank (3)

 Installation: Install new clamp (4).

Loosen hose clamps (8) at filler hose (9) and remove filler hose (9) at fuel tank (3)

Engine 266.920/940/960/980

 Installation: Check hose clamps (8); replace if necessary.

Open hose clamp (4) of fuel hose (5) and detach fuel hose (5)

 Installation: Install new clamp (4).

Detach fuel hose (6) from fuel tank (3)

 On vehicles with engine 640, the fuel hose (6) is the return line, which is also secured with a hose clamp and from which fuel can exit.

 Installation: Fit a new hose clamp.

Remove fuel line for stationary heater at fuel tank (3)

with code 228 (Additional warm water heating)

Close off openings on fuel tank (3) using a suitable plug

Remove screw/bolts (1) on fuel tank (3) and fuel tank (3) at bottom

 Helper required.

Remove stop plug from the filler neck aperture at fuel tank (3) and fully empty fuel tank (3)

 Use appropriate safety container.

If the fuel tank (3) is replaced



Modify fuel pump and fuel level sensor

Remove/install fuel pump and fill level sensor

Dispose of old fuel tank (3).

Apply preservation wax to outside of new fuel tank (3)

 When replacing fuel tank (3).

Wax underbody protection (black, 1 liter container)

Install in the reverse order

Inspect fuel tank (3) and connections for leaks
