Steering gear

765.6 in model 673, 674, 675, 676

Modification notes

24.10.2016

Work procedure completely revised.

Danger !

Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.

Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

AS00.00-Z-0005-01A

Danger !

Risk of injury to skin or eyes from hydraulic fluid spraying out under pressure.Risk of poisoning from swallowing hydraulic fluid.

Depressurize hydraulic system completely before starting any work on it. Wear protective clothing and safety glasses.

AS00.00-Z-0013-01A

Danger !

Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off during lifting

Only lift vehicle at the lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.

AS00.00-Z-0032-01A

Danger !

Risk of injury from being trapped in the swivel range of steered axles

Ensure that no persons or objects are in the swivel range of all steered axles when turning the steering wheel. Do not stand in the swivel range of the additional steering axle when the engine is running.

AS46.00-Z-0002-01A

Danger !

Risk of injury caused by body parts being pinched or crushed as cab is tilted

Ensure that no one is within the tilting range of the cab as it is being tilted. Always tilt the cab all the way to the end position and secure with the safety strut.

Bleeding

1

Switch on ignition

So that the engine can be started and stopped to allow bleeding with the cab tilted.

2

Move front wheels to straight-ahead position

3

Open maintenance flap

4

Tilt cab

5

Check steering gear oil level in oil reservoir and correct if necessary

Observe Specifications for Operating Fluids.

6

Secure vehicle against rolling

7

Raise vehicle at front axle far enough so that wheels can turn freely, and jack up vehicle

8

Start engine and allow to run at idle speed until no more air bubbles rise in oil reservoir

Observe the steering gear oil level in the oil reservoir and top up the steering gear oil if necessary. The steering gear oil level in the oil reservoir must not drop below the "min." mark, otherwise air will be drawn in.
Observe Specifications for Operating Fluids.

9

Turn off engine

10

Check steering gear oil level in oil reservoir and correct if necessary

Observe Specifications for Operating Fluids.

11

Close oil reservoir

12

Lower cab

13

Start engine and run at idle speed

14

Turn steering wheel several times to mechanical steering stop at left and right

15

Move front wheels to straight-ahead position

16

Turn off engine

17

Switch on ignition

18

Tilt cab

19

Check steering gear oil level in oil reservoir and correct if necessary

Observe Specifications for Operating Fluids.

20

Start engine and run at idle speed

Monitor the steering gear oil in the oil reservoir. No more air bubbles must rise in the oil reservoir.

21

Turn off engine

After the engine is switched off, the steering gear oil level in the oil reservoir may rise by max. 2 cm. If the steering gear oil level in the oil reservoir rises by more than 2 cm, this means air is still present in the system and the bleeding process must be repeated.

22

Raise front axle, remove jack stands and lower vehicle

23

Pour steering gear oil into oil reservoir up to "max." marking on oil dipstick

Observe Specifications for Operating Fluids.

24

Close oil reservoir

25

Lower cab

26

Close maintenance flap
