Remove/install

Remove multifunction steering wheel clock spring contact (A903)

Remove steering wheel angle sensor (SAS) (B66)

Only on vehicles with code S1D (Stability Control Assist).

Remove lower paneling of instrument panel (1) on driver side

Disconnect mechanical ignition lock electrical connection (S1a.X1.6) from ignition lock (S1a)

Pull out readout electronics of immobilizer (2) from steering lock

Remove left multifunction control lever (S20) and right multifunction control lever (S23)

Mark installation position of steering shaft (7) in relation to universal joint (5)

Pull off steering shaft (7) from universal joint (5)

 Installation: Observe marking.

 Fit bolt/nut, universal joint to steering shaft

Release compressed air from auxiliary consumer circuit

Detach compressed air line (3) from valve of steering column release (4)

 To do so, press the locking ring of the compressed air line (3) on the valve, hold it in this position and then detach compressed air line (3).

Remove electrical lines from steering column bracket (10)

 Installation: Replace cable tie.

Remove bolt (8)

 Bolt, steering column bracket to body

Remove steering column bracket (10)

Install in the reverse order

 Steering wheel, steering column bracket, steering shaft
