Remove/install

Remove trim below instrument panel.

Remove knee airbag.

Remove footwell trim.

Turn steering gear to center position (front wheels in straight-ahead position) and fix steering wheel in place using holding device.


After removing the steering shaft(3) the steering wheel may not be turned.
Otherwise, the clock spring contacts will be damaged.

Remove nut (2).

 Installation: Replace nut (2).

 Nut, steering shaft to steering column tube

Remove screw (5).

 Installation: Replace bolt (5).

 Bolt, steering coupling to steering shaft

Detach steering shaft (3) from steering coupling (6).

 Removal: Mark steering shaft (3) relative to steering coupling (6) with a marking (7).

 Installation: Note applied marking (7).

Pull steering shaft (3) out of steering column tube (1) and boot (4).

 Installation: The steering shaft (3) only fits in one position into the steering column tube (1).



Check

Check boot (4) for damage.

If damage is found,



replace boot (4).

Install in the reverse order.
