Removing, installing

Disconnect ground cable of battery

Remove airbag unit from steering wheel (1)

 Unplug connector from airbag unit on steering wheel.

Turn steering wheel (1) to horizontal position and withdraw ignition key

 Front wheels in straight-ahead position.

Unscrew bolt (2)

Installation: Replace bolt (2).



Remove steering wheel (1)

 Mark the position of the steering wheel relative to the splines on the steering shaft.

Check clock spring contact (A45) for damage

 Visual inspection, replace clock spring contact if necessary: 

Install in the reverse order

Activate steering angle sensor

Carry out road test

 Check during road test: 

Turn signal reset:
If displaced by more than one tooth, satisfactory resetting of the turn signals is no longer guaranteed.

Airbag indicator lamp:
The SRS indicator lamp must not light up when the steering is turned to full lock in both directions.

Steering wheel position:
If the steering wheel is crooked, adjust it by max. 1 tooth. If the difference is greater: 

Check and adjust toe on front axle.
