Modification notes
12.4.06 | Number of notches at which the parking brake must be adjusted if up to that point there is insufficient braking effect | Model 251 |
| Remove/install | ||
Danger! | Risk of injury caused by moving parts that can pinch, crush or, in extreme cases even sever extremities. | Keep body parts and limbs well clear of moving parts.
Danger! | Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. | Align vehicle between the columns of the lifting platform and position the four support plates at the lifting platform support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
1 | Remove cover below instrument panel | Left side of vehicle
2 | Remove left front floor covering
3 | Separate tie strap (3) | Installation: Install new tie straps.
4 | Detach retaining clip (2) on the left firewall | Installation: Replace retaining clip (2)
5 | Release parking brake | Beforehand secure vehicle to prevent it rolling away.
6 | Remove securing clip (5) and withdraw front brake cable (1) out of pedal assembly (4) | The cable element (6) should be freely accessible when the parking brake is disengaged and be easily pulled downwards out of the pedal assembly.
If the cable element (6) jams, once again ensure that the parking brake is released. Should the cable element not be free to move despite the parking brake being released, the drive plate (7) is to be pressed away from the cable element in order to loosen the toothing.
7 | Remove passenger side front seat
8 | Remove passenger side rear seat | 2nd seat row
9 | Turn back right front floor covering (8) on the transmission tunnel inwards in the direction of the footwell
10 | Raise rear floor covering (9) inwards towards the vehicle center | Right side of vehicle
11 | Remove retaining clips (10) and retaining clip (11) along the front brake cable (1) | The retaining clips (10) are fastened to the transmission tunnel and the retaining clip (11) is fastened to the center floor. Installation: Replace retaining clips.
12 | Raise vehicle using two-post lift | Raise the vehicle entirely off the ground.
Two-post lift | |||
13 | Remove the clip (15) from the connecting piece (16) and unhook the outer brake cable (17, 18) from the front brake cable (1)
14 | Remove guide tube of front brake cable (13) from clip over the rear axle carrier
15 | Lower vehicle | Half the height.
Two-post lift | |||
16 | Remove front brake cable (1) to rear and out of vehicle | Remove rubber grommet (12) from body and pull front brake cable (1) carefully to the rear. In the process pull out the front brake cable between the transmission tunnel and instrument panel. Do not damage the outer grommet of the front brake cable (1) on sharp-edged components
Installation: Guide the front brake cable (1) through the body. Do not damage the outer grommet of the front brake cable (1) on sharp-edged components Proceed in two operation steps when pulling in the front brake cable (1):
Step one: Pull the front brake cable (1) initially in full length into the rear and then insert the rubber grommet (12).
Step two: Lead the front brake cable (1) along the transmission tunnel between the instrument panel and transmission tunnel and bring into its final installation position.
17 | Install in the reverse order
| Checking | ||
18 | Engage and disengage parking brake pedal several times, then check the pedal travel (number of notches) of the parking brake pedal
If the pedal travel is not within the tolerance range:
