Remove/install

Secure vehicle at front axle using chocks to prevent it from rolling away.

Empty compressed-air system completely.

Remove wheels from trailing axle.

 Raise trailing axle using applied lifting device.

Remove left and right anti-lock braking system (ABS) rpm sensors.

Disconnect electrical connector from brakepad wear sensor (3) at left and right.


Detach and attach the connector in an axial direction only.
The electrical connectors can otherwise be damaged and the brake caliper must be replaced.

Detach compressed-air lines from left and right combination brake cylinder.

Remove line distributor with lines and line bracket from axle tube and strap down to one side.

 Do not separate lines.

Detach shock absorbers (7) at left and right air suspension support (9).

Detach air suspension bellows on the left and right at air suspension support (10).

 Bolt, air suspension bellows to air suspension bellows carrier, trailing axle

Detach stabilizer link (10) at left and right vehicle frame bearing bracket (13).

 Leading/trailing axle stabilizer link to vehicle frame bearing bracket

Detach mounting support for lift bellows (5) from trailing axle link bracket.

 Bolt, lift bellows mounting console to link bracket on trailing axle

Detach wishbone control arm (1) from trailing axle bearing bracket.

 Wishbone control arm to bearing bracket on leading/trailing axle

Lower trailing axle and pull out from under the vehicle.

Detach both air suspension supports (9) with stabilizer link (10) and link bracket from trailing axle.

Only if the trailing axle is to be replaced.
