 Caution

Risk of injury to skin and eyes due to handling of transmission oil. Health risk caused by swallowing transmission oil

Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.
Do not pour transmission oil into beverage bottles.

Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform.

Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.

Remove

Drain oil from rear axle (3).



Rear axle - oil change

Remove bolts (1).

Remove cap (2) from rear axle differential.

 To do so, loosen cap (2) from rear axle differential using suitable tool.

 Mark installation position of cap (2).



Clean

Clean sealing surfaces on cap (2) and on rear axle differential.

Assembly cleaner

Install

Apply sealant to sealing surface on cap (2).

Sealant, Loctite 5970, 50 ml

Install cap (2) on rear axle differential.

 Observe marking of installation position of cap (2).

Screw in screws/bolts (1) .

Topical note

Notes on threaded connections fastened using a tightening angle-based tightening process

 Replace screws/bolts (1) with locking splines.

Pour oil into rear axle (3).



 Warning

Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.

Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Check rear axle (3) for leak tightness.
