| Place dial indicator (2) with dial indicator holder (3) on the axle drive housing (1) such that the tip of the dial indicator makes slightly pressurized contact with a tooth of the crown gear (5). |
| Set scale of dial indicator (2) to 0. |
| Move crown gear (5) forward and backward and when doing so, read off the gear backlash on the dial indicator (2). |
| Carry out operation steps 1 to 3 on two further teeth. |
| Adjust gear backlash by uniformly turning both threaded rings (4) with the square drift. |
By uniformly turning the threaded rings (4), the crown gear, without tensioning the tapered roller bearings, is moved in the desired direction. |

| Mark installation position of differential-side threaded ring (6) relative to bearing bracket (7). |
W35.30-1101-01
| Turn in differential-side threaded ring (6) with square drift clockwise by 2 teeth. |
| Check gear backlash again and adjust if necessary. |
| Remove dial indicator (2) with dial indicator holder (3) from axle drive housing (1). |
