1 Install the reduction piece and torque wrench on the slotted nut wrench.

2 Turn drive pinion gear torque wrench and read off friction torque.

With new tapered roller bearings the value for the friction torque should be at the upper limit, with used tapered roller bearing on the lower limit. Increase a friction torque which is too low by installing a thinner shim on the drive pinion gear. Reduce a friction torque which is too high by installing a thicker shim on the drive pinion gear.
