Drift
Lightly grease all sliding parts of the differential with special lubricant before installation.
1 | Fit shims (3) on rear axle side gears (4). |
2 | Install rear axle side gears (4) in the differential case. |
D35.30-0031-01
3 | Insert drift (1) into one rear axle side gear (4). |
4 | Fit both differential pinions (6) with spherical washers (5) on both sides and arrange in the correct installation position. |
D35.30-0032-01
5 | Using an assembly drift (2), fix the differential pinions (6) and spherical washers (5) in place. |
D35.30-0033-01
6 | Fit torque wrench onto the drift (1) at the rear axle side gear (4). |
7 | Check the friction torque (total friction moment) of the differential and compare with the specified value. |
The total friction moment can be changed by adjusting the thickness of the spherical washers (5). The spherical washers (5) are available in thicknesses from 1.3 mm to 1.7 mm in intervals of 0.05 mm. |
8 | If necessary, replace spherical washers (5) and measure total friction moment again. |

9 | Drive differential pinion shaft (7) into the differential case so that the roll pin can be mounted. |
D35.30-0035-01
10 | Drive new roll pin (8) into the differential case to secure the differential pinion shaft (7). |
