Checking friction torque of tapered roller bearings

1

Install the immobilizing key (5) on the drive flange (2).

2

Tighten the collar nut to the prescribed torque. .

3

Remove the immobilizing key.

4

Install the torque wrench (4) with the socket (3) on the collar nut.

5

Manually rotate the torque wrench at least three turns while reading the frictional torque. .

6

Lock the collar nut.

If the frictional torque is higher or lower than the prescribed value, disassemble the pinion again and respectively place spacer washer, respectively larger or smaller, as required. Repeat the procedure from step 1 until the prescribed value is achieved.
The spacer washer is supplied in a thickness of 1.20 mm, with 0.01 mm increments, reaching 2.00 mm.
Try to achieve a lower frictional torque for used bearings, since the seating has been completed, and a higher frictional torque for new bearings, where the seating has not yet occurred.
