The caliper (2) and the standard base (3) are items that integrate the measuring device (1). The use of the device determines the standard measure. This way, calculations are not necessary. |

Carry out the housing measuring with the device
The procedure described below serves to determine the standard measure between the bevel gear center and the base of the pinion's bearing lodging.
1
Position the tapered group housing (5), already disassembled, with the bearings face up.
2
Insert in the pinion's bearing lodging the standard base (3).
3
Install on the measuring device (1) the gauge (4), but do not fasten it.
4
Use the caliper (2) to adjust the standard measure of the measuring device (1).
Produce a 2 mm pre-load, reset the dial gauge hand and fasten it.
5
Install the measuring device (1) in the tapered group housing bearings (5) in such a way that its centering tip stays supported on the standard base center hole (3) and consequently, the feeler tip supported on its flat surface.
6
Check at the dial gauge (4) whether the hand is indicating "zero" or if a shim is necessary.
Normally shims are necessary between the lodging base and the pinion's bearing. The shims are supplied with thickness varying from 0.1 to 0.5 mm. This way, check the quantity of shims necessary to reach the standard measure, i,e, hand in the "zero" mark.
