The basic dimension is dictated by the measurement stop on the adjustment device.
1 Clamp dial gauge (1) with extension (2) in shaft of adjustment device (3) and position at measurement stop (4).
2 Set dial gauge (1) with approx. 2 mm preload and set to zero.
This setting corresponds to the basic dimension.
3 Remove measurement stop (4) from adjustment device (3).

4 Push bearing shells (5) of adjustment device onto shaft of adjustment device (3) with dial gauge (1) and extension (2).
W33.30-1013-01
5 Insert adjustment device (3) with dial gauge (1) and extension (2) into bearing supports so that the extension rests on the end face (arrow) of the drive pinion.
6 Tighten knurled screws (6).
7 Read off measurement deviation.
8 Determing installed dimension.
Example: Measurement deviation e.g. 0.1 mm + basic dimension = measured installed dimension
W35.30-0025-01
Each drive pinion and crown wheel belonging to a gear set is marked with an engraved number. Only gear sets with the same number may be installed. The designations can be found on the end face of the drive pinion and on the beveled edge of the crown wheel.
Example: Gear set designation 527 + 0.3
The first number (527) is the number of the pinion / crown wheel gear set.
The second number ( +0.3) is the measurement deviation from the basic dimension in mm, i.e. + 0.3 mm.
Determing installed dimension:
Example gear set 527 + 0.3
Basic dimension AL3/040 100.2 mm
Measurement deviation on the
crown wheel + 0.3 mm
Adjustment dimension
for gear set 527 thus 100.5 mm
Measured installed dimension
(basic dimension with measurement deviation) 100.3 mm
W33.30-1011-01
To obtain the basic dimension, a 0.2 mm thicker shim (7) (max. 4 ea.) must be installed in the axle housing behind the outer race of the cylindrical roller bearing.
In other words, the distance from the center of the crown wheel to the end face of the drive pinion must be increased by 0.2 mm.
Shims are available in thicknesses of 0.10 mm, 0.15 mm, 0.25 mm and 0.50 mm.
9 If necessary, remove drive pinion again, disassemble, and correct distance between drive pinion and axle housing with shims.
The thicker shim must be installed towards the center of the housing.
10 Install drive pinion and repeat measurement.
