The basic dimension is dictated by the measurement stop on the adjustment device.
1 Clamp dial indicator (1) with extension (2) in the shaft of the adjustment device (3) and attach to the measuring stop (4).
2 Give the dial indicator (1) approx. 2 mm preload and position on zero.
This setting corresponds to the basic dimension.
3 Remove measurement stop (4) from adjustment device (3).

4 Slide bearing shells (5) of adjustment device into the shaft of the adjustment device (3) with dial indicator (1) and extension (2).
W33.30-1013-01
5 Insert adjustment device (3) with dial indicator (1) and extension (2) in the bearing supports so that the extension sits on the end face of the drive pinion gear.
6 Tighten knurled bolts (6).
7 Read off measurement deviation.
8 Determine installed dimension.
Example: Measurement deviation e.g. 0.1 mm + basic dimension = measured installed dimension
W35.30-0025-01
Each drive pinion and crown wheel belonging to a gear set is marked with an engraved number. Only gear sets with the same number may be installed. The designations can be found on the end face of the drive pinion and on the beveled edge of the crown wheel.
Example: Gear set designation 527 + 0.3
The first number (527) is the number of the pinion / crown wheel gear set.
The second number (+0.3) is the measurement deviation from the basic dimension in mm, i.e. + 0.3 mm.
Determine installed dimension:
Example gear set 527 + 0.3
Basic dimension AL3/040 97.9 mm
Measurement deviation on the
Crown wheel + 0.3 mm
Adjustment dimension
for gear set 527 thus 98.2 mm
Measured installed dimension (basic
dimension with dimensional deviation) 98 mm
W33.30-1027-01
To obtain the basic dimension, a 0.2 mm thicker shim (7) (max. 4 ea.) must be installed in the axle housing behind the inside outer race of the drive pinion.
In other words, the distance from the center of the crown wheel to the end face of the drive pinion must be increased by 0.2 mm.
Shims are available in thicknesses of 0.1 mm, 0.15 mm, 0.25 mm and 0.50 mm.
9 If necessary, remove drive pinion gear again and correct distance between drive pinion gear and axle housing with shims.
The thicker shim must be installed towards the center of the housing.
10 Install drive pinion gear and repeat the measurement.
