Removing

1

Remove differential assembly.

Disassemble

Detach ring gear (1)

Remove both tapered roller bearings (2)



Drive out roll pin (3)

 Mark spherical washers (6), differential pinions (5) and differential pinion shaft (4) relative to each other and to the housing.

Press out differential pinion shaft (4) and remove parts



Checking

Clean parts, check and replace if necessary



Assemble

Insert differential side gears (7) with shims

Center the differential side gears (7)

9

Install differential pinions (5) with spherical washers (6)



Fix both differential pinions (5) in position

Check friction torque on both differential side gears (7)

 Carry out the check of friction torque analog to the rear axle test.

Pound in differential pinion shaft (4) and secure with new roll pin (3)

Press on both tapered roller bearings (2)

Heat up tapered roller bearing (2) to approx. 80 °C The tapered roller bearings (2) must abut the differential assembly free from play.


