Remove brake carrier with brake caliper

Unscrew bolts (8) and detach wheel flange ring (7)

Remove brake disk from wheel hub (6)

Unscrew nut (5) and remove thrust plate (4)

Screw assembly sleeve onto the axle stub

Remove wheel hub (3) over assembly sleeve

Remove protective ring (2)

Only for front axle 730.71 if sealing lip on protective ring (2) is cracked or brittle.



Install

Prepare steering knuckle (1) for installation of protective ring (2)

Only for front axle 730.71.

Protective ring (2) must be installed in each case, even if no protective ring (2) was previously installed.
Otherwise, moisture and dirt may get into the wheel hub (3) and cause corrosion, which damages the compact bearing in the wheel hub (3) and can result in total failure of the whole compact bearing.

Install new protective ring (2)

Only for front axle 730.71.

The bore of the protective ring (2) and the bore of the ABS sensor in steering knuckle (1) must be aligned, so that the ABS sensor can be installed correctly.
Otherwise measurements could be incorrect, causing the brake system to malfunction.

Coat the sealing lip of the protective ring (2) with multipurpose grease

Only for front axle 730.71.

Coat axle stub in the area of the bearing seat of wheel hub (3) with paste

Slide wheel hub (3) over the assembly sleeve onto the axle stub and detach assembly sleeve

Install new nut (5) with a new thrust plate (4)

 Tighten the nut (5) first while constantly turning the wheel hub (3) to 210 Nm.
Then tighten nut (5) to the specified tightening torque and do not slacken again.

Clean the centering seat on the wheel hub (3), on the wheel flange ring (7) and on both sides of the brake disk (6) and coat with paste

Screw in one guide pin each on two opposite bores of the wheel hub (3)



Attach brake disk (6) and wheel flange ring (7) over the guide pins to the wheel hub (3)

Fit brake disk (6) and wheel flange ring (7) onto the wheel hub (3) using new screws/bolts (8)

 Screw in new screws/bolts (8) on wheel flange ring (7) by hand all the way.
Then tighten the new screws/bolts (8) in a diagonal pattern to the specified tightening torque.
