Detach torsion bar on front axle carrier (11); to do this, unscrew bolts (13) on torsion bar

Remove headlamp range adjustment sensor. To do this, remove nuts (14)

Unscrew nut (8)

Self-locking nut, torque strut to front axle carrier

Remove bolt (9)

Remove strut rod (10)

Pry out of front axle carrier (11) using assembly lever.

Installation: Screw on nut (8) up to contact surface, but do not yet tighten so that the elastomer bearing (12) of the strut rod (10) can still turn when rocking vehicle to settle suspension. Only tighten nut (8) in the ready-to-drive condition.

Check

Inspect radius rod (10) for visible signs of damage or deformation.

Check rubber boots on elastomer bearing (12) for damage

The rubber boots should be retrofitted to protect the elastomer bearings (12).

If necessary, replace or retrofit rubber boots:

Remove/install rubber boots on rubber mount

Check elastomer bearing (12)


If the elastomer bearings (12) are cracked or brittle, then either the elastomer bearing (12) or the complete strut rod (10) has to be replaced.
Otherwise the chassis geometry will be faulty.

The strut rod (10) must be replaced if any damage is determined on the elastomer bearing (12).
