Remove/install

Remove wheels from axle concerned.

 After jacking up, leave the lifting device positioned at the front axle.

Remove ball head of drag link from steering arm.

 If necessary, remove cap.
The ball head of the drag link detaches abruptly.

 Installation: Replace nut.

 Nut to tie rod end and drag link end

Remove left and right anti-lock braking system (ABS) rpm sensor.

Detach plug (9) from left and right brakepad wear sensor.


Pull off and push on the connectors (9) in an axial direction only.
Otherwise, the electrical connector can be damaged.

Remove brake lines (3) from brake cylinders.

Remove shock absorbers (1) from bearing brackets of spring supports (6).

Lift front axle with lifting device far enough until the springs are relieved.

Remove bearing caps (12) from bearing brackets of spring supports (6) and swivel torsion bar (11) downward.

Remove spring U-bolts (4) and take off clamping plates (5).

 Nut, spring U-bolt to front axle

Lower front axle and remove spring supports (6).

 Installation: Apply light coating of grease to mounting holes for center bolts in spring supports (6). When the front axle is lifted, the center bolt must engage in the mounting hole.

Pull front axle out from under vehicle.

Install in the reverse order.

Check/adjust steering stop.
