Removing

Danger!

Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform.

Align vehicle between columns of vehicle lift and position four support plates at vehicle lift support points specified by vehicle manufacturer.

Remove bottom section of soundproofing at front

Remove underfloor panels

Remove diagonal struts (6) from front axle carrier (1)

 Remove bolts of diagonal struts (6) from front axle carrier (1) and from unterbody.

Remove stiffening plate (3)

 Remove bolts (2, 4, 5) and remove stiffening plate (3)

Remove clamp for link rod of headlamp range adjustment sensor

For vehicles with code (612) Xenon headlamp unit or code 614 Bi-xenon headlamp unit

 Unscrew nuts (14) and remove clamp.

Remove the torsion bar (10) from the link rod (23)

 Ensure that the ball stud rubber boot is not twisted or damaged.

 Unscrew nuts (23a), counterhold ball stud of link rods (23) while doing so.

Remove torsion bar (10) from front axle carrier (1)

 Unscrew bolts (13) and remove lower retaining bracket (21c) and upper retaining bracket (21b).



Checking

Detach and check rubber mounts (21a) of torsion bar (10)

 If necessary, replace rubber mounts (21a).



Install

Install torsion bar (10) onto front axle carrier (1)

 Do not use any grease or antifriction agent otherwise the rubber mounts (21a) may be damaged.



Install stabilizer bar (10) onto link rods (23)

 Counter the ball head bolts on the connecting rods (23).



Mount clamp for link rod of headlamp range adjustment sensor

For vehicles with code (612) Xenon headlamp unit or code 614 Bi-xenon headlamp unit

Install stiffening plate (3)

Model 209.4

 Position stiffening plate (3) and screw in bolts (2, 4, 5).



Install diagonal struts (6) onto front axle carrier (1)

Model 209.4

 Only contact bolts of diagonal struts (6) to prevent tensions in the chassis.

Lower vehicle

Tighten bolts on diagonal struts (6)

 When tightening the bolts on the diagonal struts (6), ensure that the vehicle is standing on its wheels.



Connect Star Diagnosis, read out fault memory and adjust zero position of headlamps
