Remove screws (16) from 13-pin trailer socket (X58).

 To do so, counterhold nuts of screws (16).

Remove 13-pin trailer socket (X58) from trailer socket holder (2).

 To do so, guide 13-pin trailer socket (X58) through cutout (arrow) and out of trailer socket holder (2) on trailer hitch (4).

 Secure 13-pin trailer socket (X58) on electrical wiring harness (1) outside the working area.

Remove nuts (15) from screws (14).

If trailer hitch (4) or trailer coupling (13) is replaced.

 To do so, counterhold screws (14).

Remove trailer coupling (13) from trailer hitch (4).

If trailer hitch (4) or trailer coupling (13) is replaced.

 To do this, remove screws (14).

Remove screws (9, 10, 12).

 To do so, counterhold nut (11) on screw (10).

Remove crossmember holder (8) from trailer hitch (4).

Support trailer hitch (4) and secure with tensioning strap.



Remove screws (6, 7).

Lower and remove trailer hitch (4).



Clean contact surfaces in hatched areas on rear longitudinal members (3).

Install

Lift trailer hitch (4), position it and screw in screws (6, 7).



 To do so, use shim (5) between right rear longitudinal member (3) and trailer hitch (4), as shown.
Support trailer hitch (4) from below.
Do not tighten screws/bolts (6, 7) yet.
Aid of helper required.

Mount crossmember holder (8) onto trailer hitch (4) and screw in screws (9, 10, 12).

 Use washers for screws (10, 12).
Screw bolt (10) into nut (11).
Do not tighten screws (9, 10, 12) yet.

Tighten screws (6, 7).

 Install trailer hitch (4) free of tension.

 Bolt, cross member for trailer hitch to rear longitudinal member

Tighten screws (9, 10, 12).

 Install crossmember holder (8) free of tension.
Counterhold nut (11) on bolt (10).

 Bolt, cross member bracket to rear longitudinal member

Remove major assembly mount and mounting plate as well as tensioning strap.



Apply wax.

Apply wax to previously cleaned areas of rear longitudinal member (3) and the screwing positions of the trailer hitch crossmember (4) extensively.
This prevents corrosion.

Attach trailer coupling (13) to trailer hitch (4) and fix in place using screws (14) and nuts (15).

If trailer hitch (4) or trailer coupling (13) was replaced.

 Use washers for screws (14) and nuts (15).
Position trailer coupling (13) correctly on trailer hitch (4).
Do not tighten screws (14) yet.

If necessary,



Align trailer hitch (13).

Tighten screws (14).

If trailer hitch (4) or trailer coupling (13) was replaced.

 Bolt, fixed ball head to cross member for trailer hitch

Attach 13-pin trailer socket (X58) to trailer socket holder (2).

 To do so, guide trailer hitch electrical wiring harness (1) through cutout (arrow) in trailer socket holder (2).

Screw in screws (16) on 13-pin trailer socket (X58).

 To do so, counterhold nuts of screws (16).

Lower vehicle.



Check

Perform function check of 13-pin trailer socket (X58).


