Check oil level in automatic transmission without ultrasound device, correct if necessary

 Warning

Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.

Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.
Do not pour transmission oil into beverage bottles.

Start test as well as bleeding routine with vehicle diagnosis system.

 Select menu item "Oil level measurement without ultrasound unit".
Do not release parking brake nor generate any other disturbance variables that are not required in the work procedure during the whole test. All these factors lead to the measurement being aborted and therefore mean that the measurement has to be restarted.

Allow automatic transmission fluid to cool to less than the limit value.

If the limit value is exceeded.

 The limit value is 35 °C.
The test and bleeding routine is resumed after the limit value has been undershot.

After the end of the test and the bleeding routine, lift the vehicle.

Open quick-release fastener (1) with  socket wrench.

Insert  socket wrench (2) into overflow pipe (3) until it engages.

Turn socket wrench (2) to position 1 (A).

Lower vehicle.

Start engine and heat automatic transmission fluid to 39 °C.

Raise vehicle.

Turn socket wrench (2) to position 3 (B).

Drain as much automatic transmission fluid until the oil stream (a) has reduced to a thin oil stream (b) and the automatic transmission fluid temperature is 40 °C.

Turn socket wrench (2) to position 1 (A) and remove from overflow pipe (3).

 Remove socket wrench (2) only at position 1 (A) from overflow pipe (3).
Otherwise, when the quick-release fastener (1) is opened again, an undefined quantity of automatic transmission fluid will escape.

Close new quick-release fastener (1) with  socket wrench (2).

Lower vehicle.
